Podcast Rundown
Brian LeGros | February 16th, 2008 | programmingI spend about 3-4 hours a day driving to work and back, so I listen to a lot of podcasts along the way. It’s taken a while to put together a good list, but over the last year or so I’ve been able to build up a pretty reliable set of shows. I think I’ve really been able to grow as a developer by being exposed to so many perspectives. I don’t always agree with or understand the content I listen to, but at the very least my exposure to that content has helped me learn to take more of a balanced perspective in my career. I also like to listen to technology and science podcasts, but that’s more for fun.
Below is a list of what keeps me occupied on my drive; I’ve tried to include the feed for each podcast as well. Some are updated infrequently, but I enjoy them. If you’re a developer and are interested in hearing others approaches to development, I hope this list offers some help.

Sometimes I wish I had to drive as far as you do to work and back so I could listen to podcasts more religiously. Unfortunately, I am limited to about fifteen minutes in each direction, so I have to keep the list short.
SE Radio kicks ass. I used this post as my reminder to subscribe to The Flex Show on my media Mac (thanks!).

I really appreciate you listening to The Flex Show (And telling your friends).
I’ve listened to a lot of podcasts during a morning walk; have found some great stuff out there, but it is hard to sift through the noise.
Max, thanks for subscribing; I hope we deliver what you need. And if not, don’t be shy in telling us what we can do better or different. Even after doing the podcast for over a year, I still feel like I’m still learning.

@Max - I would never wish that drive on anyone, but if you ever want to trade commutes, just let me know :). I like the Flex Show, it’s a good community news and conversation podcast.
@Randal - Thanks for stopping by. Although I’d like to see more shows from FLOSS Weekly, I really enjoy the ones you’ve done thus far. I’d really like to see something from the Ubuntu crowd as well as the Mono guys trying to make .NET legit in the cross-platform space. Keep up the great work.
@Joe - Thanks for suggestions, RadioLab looks pretty cool. I’ll definitely check both out.
@Jeff - Thanks for stopping by. I really like the Flex Show, especially now that the opening music is different (seriously, thank you for that and sorry if saying this offends anyone). You guys are doing great with the interviews, but it would be nice to see more organization in them (episode 34 was a little chaotic). Could you guys give out some information on good places to find best practices in Flex (devoid of framework stuff? If so that’d be awesome. Flex has a lot of powerful features and it feels like few people are familiar with them since they just dive into something like Cairngorm. In any case, keep up the great work and thanks for all the help you’re giving to the community.

@Mario - I hope you like the suggestions. I’m definitely going to check these out. I don’t have much listening for this week, so I’ll be playing catch up for these new feeds. Thanks for the suggestions!
